Don
Kavanagh History in PDR
Don Kavanagh has always been a perfectionist. From his days of under
water welding, working in the auto industry, to his learning the fine
art of paintless dent removal, Don has used his attention to detail as
an asset. Don Kavanagh worked as an award winning Service Advisor
(Mercedes Benz and BMW) at Sears
Imported Autos in Minneapolis for 8 years in the 1980's. Through
Sears Imported Autos, Don met a German craftsman named Juergen Holzer.
Juergen was one of the first true paintless dent removal technicians in
the United States. Juergen Holzer learned his craft at the BMW Factory in Munich,
Germany and worked there at his craft for ten years.

In 1989, Holzer started doing
PDR for Sears Imported Autos, where Don Kavanagh worked. Kavanagh
approached Juergen about teaching him the fine art of paintless dent
removal. In 1991, Don Kavanagh, invested $50,000 for 2 months of training under
Juergen Holzer. Don was his first student to learn PDR from him. He
asked Don Kavanagh to stay on and Don worked along side Juergen for
another 2
years. This provided Don Kavanagh with invaluable experience, working
with his mentor for those 2 years. Because of Don Kavanagh's long
standing relationship with Sears Imported Autos, Kavanagh has been
servicing their paintless dent repair since he learned the craft.
In 1991, Don Kavanagh
started his own paintless dent removal company, Dent Kraft Plus. In
1993, a large hail storm hit the Twin Cities, causing hail damage to
hundreds of cars, trucks and SUV's. This brought many PDR techs together
and Don Kavanagh met Tim Oare, of Auto Restoration Services. Oare had
started doing PDR in 1991, training with Dents Unlimited in Springfield,
MO. Tim Oare's training varied from the training Don Kavanagh had
received. He and Tim Oare taught each other their respective techniques,
making them much more versatile in PDR. When Kavanagh first started in
PDR, Holzer put a limit on the size of dents they worked on at 2". With
the joint knowledge Kavanagh and Oare had learned, they were able to
expand not only the size of car dents they could repair, but they also
learned how to repair many car dents they previously had to turn away.
In August of 1993, Tim Oare and Joe Schepers merged Auto Restoration
Services into Kavanagh's Dent Kraft Plus, in
Roseville, Minnesota.

Dent Kraft Plus operated for
10 years in Roseville and Golden Valley, Minnesota. Jake Kelm (at left) came on
board at Dent Kraft Plus in 2000. Jake Kelm learned paintless dent
removal from Don Kavanagh (on right), Tim Oare and Joe Schepers.
In 2003, Don Kavanagh
separated from Oare and Schepers to start Dent Kraft PDR. Dent Kraft PDR has
been in Plymouth, MN for 6 years. Jake Kelm soon became a fixture with
Don Kavanagh at Dent Kraft PDR. With over 22 years of combined experience, Don Kavanagh,
Jake Kelm and Dent Kraft PDR are known in the Twin Cities as the "Best
of the Best" in paintless dent removal. Don Kavanagh has always been a leader
in the PDR industry, being the first student of a German craftsmen.
